Allen Park, Michigan-- The Detroit Lions have had quite the interesting offseason after completing a 2-14 season under first year head coach Jim Schwarz. After one season of trying to revamp the offense into a more balanced attack with the Number 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford and solid running back Kevin Smith, Schwarz went out and continued to add to his offense and the defensive scheme which earned him his job. He added Rob Sims to sure up the offensive line, Nate Burrelson to give Stafford a new deep threat, and Tony Scheffler to add another security blanket for the young QB. They also drafted Jahvid Best to contribute to the running back situation.

Defensively the Lions drafted Defensive Tackle Ndamukong Suh with the second pick in the draft, as well as signing Kyle Vandenboesh to sure up the defensive line. They lost Larry Foote, Ernie Sims, Philipp Buccannon, William James, and many others. But they brought in some young talent which can be built up into a solid defensive unit.

The Lions began the Preseason by trading away superstar WR Calvin Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in a 7 player deal which sent Megatron, Kevin Smith, Tony Scheffler, and Sammie Hill to the Panthers in exchange for Thomas Davis, Braylon Edwards, Charles Godfrey and a 5th round pick. The Lions improved their defense as well as added an experienced receiver to replace the irreplaceable in Calvin. Overall the Lions had an interesting offseason and have a team to watch in the NFC North where Minnesota lost Brett Favre (if you believe that crap), Chicago has an interception throwing machine at quarterback, and Green Bay is the clear cut favorite to win the division. The Lions could do some damage this season if the right pieces fall into place for them.
